Chip Decker was hired by ATC founders, Dan Shoemaker and Janet Isenhardt as the companies Technical Director in 1996. Over the past 24 seasons, Chip has been a guiding force in growing ATC and positioning it as the areas most award winning professional contemporary theatre company for adults. During his time as Artistic Director, Chip oversaw the company’s transition to a home at 650 E. Stonewall Street, where the full time staff grew from zero to 6. In the time at Stonewall, Chip reenergized the companies commitment to the community by insuring the continuance of the “Pay What You Can” program, created a new subscription model called the ” Flex Pass” and began a new play program called “nuVoices for a nuGeneration”. After becoming the Executive Director, he successfully moved the company to the beautiful campus of Queens University, where the company is now the resident theatre company. Chip’s latest goal of reintroducing a professional summer “Shakespeare In The Park” type event saw it’s premier this past Summer as ATC presented “Midsummer Nights @Queens”‘ in what he hopes will grow into a month long summer celebration of all things Shakespeare.
