(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) – After over 3 decades, one of Charlotte’s longest-running professional theatre companies will cease production after its upcoming Season 34 production of  EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, which runs through October. “Despite our best efforts, we are heartbroken that we have to bring down the curtain on such a rich history of professional theatre here,” said Executive Director Laura Rice.

A combination of factors led to the decision, including the continuing effects COVID-19 has had on performing arts operations such as ATC, disappointing ticket and subscription sales, and the recent news that ATC would be seeking another performance venue after its current residency at Queens University’s Hadley Theatre will end in 2023.

“We believe this is a loss for Charlotte and the entire arts community, but we also plan to celebrate ATC’s legacy and the hundreds of talented people who’ve graced our stages, onstage and backstage. We’re going out the only way we know how- by producing one last stellar theatre experience. We hope to see our patrons in October at EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL,” Rice said.

The cult classic musical will be performed outdoors at the Barn at MoRA on 8300 Monroe Road from September 29  to October 30, 2022. Tickets on sale at:

Single ticket holders for future shows will be refunded automatically and Season 34 Flex Pass holders will be able to  choose from options on the ATC website.

ATC was founded in 1989 as a professional theatre to present bold and innovative new works by contemporary playwrights, and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit theatre.
